The Story – From my point of view

We spent Friday the 27th at the Coast. The weather was amazing. We went for a walk on the beach and then canoeing on Nehalem Bay. While canoeing I said we should drive up the coast and check out other state parks. Andrea had mentioned a few times that she loves Ecola State Park and that if she were to get engaged, she would love it if it happened there. Well that made it tough to even talk about Ecola without her assuming I was going to propose. I mentioned a few places we should check out and said we could go see Ecola so I could “scope out my spot.” She said “You don’t have a ring do you?” I said “Not with me.” It was in the car so technically not with me in the canoe. She said she would stop asking questions as not to ruin the surprise when it did happen.

We drove up the coast stopping at a few view points and then got a late lunch/ early dinner in Cannon beach. We ate at a pizza place that had the best Thai Chicken Pizza! It was so good!

We made our way to Ecola State Park after Cannon Beach. The plan was I would tell her we needed to find a secluded place so I could play her a song I wrote for her and then immediately after the song I would get down on one knee and propose. Well we got out of the car and were talking about a place for me to play for her. She wanted to go see the viewpoint first so we went (without the guitar) over to the viewpoint. On our way she said. “Up here is the spot I told my cousin a few years ago I wanted to be proposed to at.” So I quickly changed plans in my head. I already had the ring in my pocket.

When we got to the viewpoint there were people there but they quickly cleared out. We had it to ourselves. I set my camera on the rail and said “Let’s take a picture of us.” I switched it to video mode and started recording. I got down on one knee and she said “Scott!?” I told her that I loved her very much, that I thought she was absolutely amazing, and wanted to spend the rest of my life and eternity with her. Then I said will you marry me? She said “Yes” and was shocked when I pulled out the ring. She thought it was amazingly beautiful. At one point she said “Is this for real?” I said “No, I got it at K-mart… Yes it’s for real, it’s diamonds and everything!” She was so surprised that she kept saying “Oh my goodness.”

After we spent about 15 minutes at the viewpoint, we started to leave. As we started to leave, people were coming down the path so somehow we had it to ourselves for the perfect amount of time. I played the song I wrote for her somewhere else in the park.

We then drove down to Indian beach. I drew in the sand and took pictures. That’s where the “she said yes” with our shadows picture came from. Then we drove to Seaside and saw the sunset.

What a wonderful day! Beautiful weather, fun activities, beautiful scenery, a beautiful girl and best of all she agreed to marry me! I am one LUCKY guy!
